Disability Access Statement

Caer Llan is located on a steep south-westerly facing terraced hillside. Parts of the grounds can only be accessed by accomplished acrobats or irresponsible children!

HOWEVER

To help you to move about:-

All the parts of the house that matter can be reached on the level by wheel chair as can much of the gardens via sloping paths, some of which are quite steep. There are 7 entrances on the ground floor, only one has a step. Free car parking for most cars is down a slope but there is room for about 15 on the level. There is close vehicular access to four of the ground floor doorways. A dedicated 'blue card' parking slot can be provided by the front door. All the main ground floor reception rooms are on one level. No steps anywhere.
Seven bedrooms (all en suite) are also on the ground floor. No steps.

To help you see where you are going:-

All corridors and rooms have good colour contrast between floor and walls. Corridors are automatically lit up at night time by sensors when entered. The areas immediately around the house are similarly illuminated. White stripes can be laid on floors of popular routes on request. Many plants close to the doors have been chosen for their fragrance. Since Caer Llan is only for pre-booked groups this form is not available in Braille. Guide dogs are welcome and there are several places for them to get a drink of water.

To help you keep in touch:-

All bedrooms have telephone points. Hand sets can be provided. There are several other house phones around. Dialling "0" will always reach a member of staff. who will be happy to help day or night. Mobiles do NOT work well indoors but a good signal can always be reached outside. There is a pay-phone and an internet connection at the foot of the stairs. An outside line can be provided from a bedroom house phone on request.

More help for the future:-

Currently we do not have dedicated downstairs disabled toilet facilities. When necessary one of the Berm house en-suite bedrooms can be set aside. It is intended to convert at least one of these into a fully disabled facility with access from either side to the loo, reachable light switches, grab rails, emergency bell etc. room to turn a chair around and close the door etc. etc. Not sure when but sooner rather than later.
